WHAT KIND OF DOG IS NEEDED?

Assistance dogs face challenges that ordinary pets and other working dogs never encounter. It is difficult to understand the extraordinary demands that public access work  places on a dog.

CANINE CARE teams a canine partner with an individual based on an interview and evaluation of an individual’s needs. We then carefully design and implement a partnership program with the success of the team in mind!

OUR DOGS

Canine Care Assistance Dogs developed the Service-Rescue Dog Program  with a goal of placing abandoned dogs from shelters, and rescue organizations, training those that were good candidates for our program, and successfully placing them as service partners.

The Service-Rescue concept, when applied to a Humane Society, Animal Shelter, or Rescue dog situation, has resulted in a special and exciting combination, offering assistance to disabled individuals, while at the same time, giving previously abandoned dogs a chance for useful lives of love and service. A second chance at life!

The Canine Care Service - Rescue Dog Program trains primarily those dogs our trainers select from animal shelters, or rescue groups. The dogs are tested to see how well they interact with people, how motivated they are, if they are good with other animals and if they seem eager to learn.

  •  All dogs are spayed or neutered before being placed.
  • Clients may have their own dogs trained for service, provided that each dog meets certain criteria evaluated by a Canine Care Trainer.
  • Although our evaluations help us choose dogs we feel will succeed in our program, there are times when a behavior occurs in training that makes them unable to complete the program. It might be they have difficulty learning a skill for the job or have a trait that would make it difficult for there partners to manage them.

These wonderful dogs are just that -  WONDERFUL , but not suitable to complete our high service dog standards. For the person looking for a wonderful pet please contact us and consider a "dog looking for a career -change."

CANINE CARE DOG PARTNERING AND QUALIFICATION

Please note that we consider each application individually in a sense that we will create a custom training program according to the applicant's special needs.

Canine Care provides assistance dogs from our program to children and adults for a number of disabilities other than blindness. Including those affected with mobility related disabilities, hearing problems, seizure disorders.

Once the match has been determined, the team (applicant + service dog) will be required to go through CANINE CARE TEAM training.

TEAM training includes skills training, classroom, public outings, home-work-outdoor-transition program, and understanding positive techniques and reinforcement in canine learning.

Upon successful completion of TEAM training,  a team is required to pass several tests (written, a Public Access Test and skills review) to be granted Qualification.
